    Type H, has clear plastic (No slogan) backing and was issued between 1972 - 2002.  However, this merit badge began in 1965 with the multi-colored
    satellite
    on blue background with a  green border design.  In 1972,  the design changed to include a silver-bordered version produced for
    only one year
    .  In 1973, the design changed drastically to a three-part design featuring various
    aspects
    of communication
