    Description

Great piece of WWII historic memorabilia. According to the brass plaque on the front and family history, the flag came off the YMS 16 Yard Mine Sweeper that operated in the Italian and Sicily campaigns during WWII. This is a silk flag that was used during parades or ceremonial events. The flag is in excellent condition for its age. The flag has a few condition problems where the fabric has separated from age. The flag was preserved and put in this shadow box frame many years ago and has been protected from further deterioration. A great piece of WWII Naval memorabilia. Overall dimensions of the frame are 38 1/2" x 26 1/2" x 2" deep. The flag is approximately 34" x 22 1/2". The USS YMS 16 was built by Rice Bros Corp in East Boothbay Harbor, Maine in March of 1942 and launched in September 1942. It was taken out of service in 1944 then transferred to France and renamed the Capucine.
