Description
Antique, huge 46-star US flag measures 57" by 80".The 46 Star American flag had a short history--from July 4, 1908, after Oklahoma gained statehood, until July 3, 1912, after Arizona and New Mexico were admitted to the union and the flag was updated to 48 stars.
The red, white and blue fabric is wool; the applique stars are tightly woven cotton? Linen? The names Betty and Janet Slade are hand lettered on the binding.
The hem on the right-hand end is hand sewn, I suspect because of fraying. There are a few moth holes and some light staining. Overall and given its age, I would say the flag is in remarkable condition. It will be mailed wrapped in archival acid-free tissue.
