    Description

    Large sized cabinet card style photo showing husband and wife Henry Clay Moon and Polly Moon, parents of Frederick Douglas Moon. On reverse in pen reads F.D. Moon yet based on age and style I'm guessing that the photo shows the parents of Frederick Douglas Moon. Embossed thick stock with major corner wear/damage and a bit of scuffing to actual image. Fair as is condition. This photo is part of an album of Moon related photographs and ephemera. A very scarce estate find!
    According to the website http://www.okcps.org/domain/866 and homepage of the F.D. Moon Academy located in Oklahoma City:
    In 1940 Frederick Douglass Moon moved to Oklahoma City where he became the Douglass High School principal. He continued in that position until 1961. Considered the "dean" of African-American education, he was elected to the Oklahoma City Board of Education in 1972 and served as its first African-American president in 1974. He served at a time when federally mandated desegregation occurred within the Oklahoma City Public School System. During this time the program of busing students across town was carried out in order to bring racial equality to the schools.
