  • Condition: SEE PHOTOS. Very Good, clean, comes from a smoke free home. Plumes are excellent, no shedding or breaks and are supple. No soiling. Satin is not torn, no holes a few tiny scuffs but minimal, sequins excellent. Comes from a smoke free home of the original owner, where it was very well cared for in a walk in closet. Interior lining is tearing, a shown. Shows some mild signs of age but is really very good. Please, ask if you need more details.

    Description

    Oh my!  Quite a magnificent piece of fashion history!  Genuine antique late 1920s Flapper evening cloche hat.  A deep helmet style cloche of lush black silk satin with a sequin band across the top.  Around the face is a halo of wide and deep curling and swirling "burnt" egret plumes!  Definitely not for the faint of heart, this is worthy of being worn on the stage as in the Follies or Moulin Rouge.  We can see a 1920s vamp wearing this to a decadent party at the Great Gatsby mansion, can't you?   Or maybe Josephine Baker?  French, I believe, as it came with a trunk full of hats and headdresses from a French dancer who performed on the Paris stage during WWI and into the 1920s.
    A real museum piece.  Interior circumference is a little hard to determine due to the shape of this, but a good estimate is about 22 1/2" around, so not a tiny hat.  I wear a 22 1/2 and its fits me fine, not tight and there is a little room in there also if you have a bit larger head.  Ooh la la!
