    Description

BSA PUBLIC HEALTH Merit Badge Type D(1942-46) CRIMPED NARROW FINE TWILL A00131
    Type D - 1942 through 1946 - Fine Twill
This type is the same as Type C except the cloth was consistently light tan in color and was made from a very fine twill, (approximately 38 twill ribs per inch versus approximately 28 twill ribs on the heavier khaki) sometimes referred to as sand twill because of its very fine texture and similarity to the color of sand. Varying shades of green in the outer embroidered ring also exist in this type. It was issued during World War II to replace the heavier khaki cloth needed to make military uniforms to support the war effort. There is reason to believe that all merit badges made during this time were fine twill and that all merit badges available for Scouts to earn during World War II were likely made on fine twill. From the 111 available to earn during this time, 85 are currently known.
