BSA JOURNALISM MERIT BADGE TYPE C (1936-39) NARROW BORDERÂ A01606Type C, Tan Narrow Border Crimped 1936 through 1946
The difference between this type and previous type is the distance between the cramp and the outer edge of the embroidered ring. It is about 1/8 of an inch, making the diameter of the merit badge about 1 and 1/2 from crimp to crimp. Type C, like previous types, exist in various color shades. Subjects in the design appear in both brown and black such as black and brown hog, black and brown bee, etc. The four blue fully embroidered Air Scout merit badges are Type C. Type C merit badges, like type D and E, have a glue-like coating on the reverse that seems to stiffen the merit badge and help retain the crimped Edge. The Type C merit badges were embroidered in both cotton and silk thread. However, it is uncertain if all Type C merit badges exist in both types of thread. There is some evidence that Type C was not made after 1942, except for the blue fully embroidered Air Scout merit badges.
