Antique Photo MOSE SHELTON Poor African American Man Ragged Clothes-Humble House
Up for sale is a terrific antique photo of an African American man named MOSE SHELTON.  His coat is ragged and his home is very humble as he eats his meal.  The photo is a 2.5" square.  I Googled "Mose Shelton" and there is an infamous triple murder in Halletsville, Texas where the accused is Mose Shelton.  The year is 1938.  I don't know the outcome of the trial.  I certainly don't know if this is the same man--odds are it is not.  But I couldn't find an image of any Mose Shelton so I can't rule it out.  The caption on back is "Mose Shelton - Daddy send back"  So it seems like someone wanted to send a photo of Mose but get it back.  Apart from any scandal--this is a really lovely photo and I trust the Mose Shelton in this pictures was a fine upstanding gentleman.  I purchased this at an estate auction in So Cal with no additional information.  The 1930s is a date that matches several of the other photos in the lot.
