Antique French Folk Costume Peasant Hat Fanned Black Lace Gold Sequin Bonnet
This antique Alsatian French folk costume peasant hat fanned black lace gold sequin bonnet dates from the late 19th century. It is made of a large fan style wire frame covered with black lace, a long black silk ribbon bow hanging down from the back and a triangle shaped black silk cap covered with gold mesh net, gold metal sequin beading and gold rope trim accents. This exquisite early Alsatian style French folk costume headdress cap bonnet has a unique lace fanned out top, a large black silk knotted bow back and triangle fitted cap front with a blue velvet padded trim underneath and is fully lined inside. The hat measures 18 inches wide, 10 inches tall and is 12 inches wide across the triangle cap front. It is in good condition, with a few frayed holes on the bottom front net edging and has some missing sequins (see close-up). This is a truly a rare and wonderful piece of early French Alsatian regional folk costume millinery art!
