At 75 I’m a retiring antique dealer who is beginning to clean out his stock of stored treasures.
For about forty years I was a pretty fanatical collector of early American flags and lots of other patriotic flag collectibles.
I was honored to have a great collection of them, but I always knew that I was only their custodian for a while and eventually it would be time to move them on to their next owner.
This two-sided 33-star flag metal advertising flag for the “Partridge & Richardson, Bee Hive Store, 17 N. Eighth Street, Philadelphia” is actually a noise maker. When one spins it around, the notched top rubs against the metal producing a racket that no doubt helped some merrymaker celebrate the 4
th
of July or some other patriotic occasion.
