The famous band of the 15th [African American] Infantry, New York National Guard, on their way to the station at Aix les Bains to greet a trainload of our fighting men on leave. The band was well known in New York before the outbreak of the war as [James Reese] Europe's band. The Black musicians enlisted in a body and their leader was commissioned a lieutenant.
